Well said—but here’s the problem with your argument.

Your three bullets (and the first in particular) describe exactly how our current administration thinks gov’t *should* operate. Take a look at how overburdened the US is right now with inscrutable executive regulations written by faceless, unaccountable, bureaucratic lawyers drawn from the ranks of Alinskyite aparatchiks (might as well be Cuba and Venezuela) and you will see why Obama and his minions think the EU sounds like a perfectly good place for you!

It was the political class and the media in the UK that supported Obama. A majority of the people I spoke with when asked about the election said they wouldn’t have supported him if they had a say, or didn’t care who won because it wasn’t their business. Obama is the establishment’s man.

As an American I completely agree with this post. Extremely well written and articulate. The United States, especially over the last 12 years, has had a stupendously poor and ham-fisted approach to foreign policy. Which is why I am shocked that you folks seemed to universally support Barack Obama. His foreign policy track record is horrendous and has benefited nobody. He is an international war criminal and continues to mercilessly slaughter the people of Pakistan via drone warfare. Why not instead support a libertarian candidate, who specifically advocates that American interventionalism ends? 4 years from now, take a look at one of the unfortunately few third parties. We are a small but growing group here in the States and would appreciate your consideration. Enough of these foolish Democrats or Republicans!

As an American I am disgusted by Mr. Gordon presuming to tell the British government how they should conduct their affairs. I can honestly say that I would not support the regulations and stipulations that come with being a member of a conglomerate of nations. It takes a truly foolish administration to try to convince another country to do something that we would not do ourselves. Then again, the Obama administration has shown how inept and out of touch with reality they really are.

As an American, I personally despise the tyrant Obama. In fact, your questions sir, which ought to be rhetorical, would be answered in the affirmative by Obama and his ilk. YES, he would love to subject the USA and its citizens to an unaccountable super-authority, because this is exactly what he is doing inside the USA. YES, he would very much like to subjugate the American people to a world body. YES, YES, a hundred times yes. He is a tyrant, pure and simple, and no fan of the real American spirit. He promised to “fundamentally transform” our country and he is doing it. Sadly, the American people have become so complacent and lazy (fat, dumb and happy is an expression which is unfortunately literally accurate), that we continue to vote for idiots like Obama. The culture is damaged, perhaps beyond repair. People get the government that they deserve, and we deserve this one. I hope that we can recover from this malaise without a complete disintegration, but each day I become less hopeful that it is possible. My prediction is that within 10 years the entire economy will collapse, and the USA will splinter into two or even more countries.

I apologize for the aholes we have running our Government right now. Please rest assured that they are the “Worst.Political.Class.Ever” in the history of this country. And the arrogant $rick at the top is the worst.

Hate to break it to you, but that’s essentially the case already. Obama & Holder have filed suit against state governments that attempt to enforce federal immigration law and protect their citizens. This administration is using tax funds to advertise in Mexico to tell Mexican nationals how to get on U.S. welfare. Our border agents are armed with beanbags. For all practical purposes, we’ve got open borders with promises of welfare and “affirmative action” on top. It’s all designed to crush national identity, balloon the welfare state, and stick it to whitey.

Thank you everyone who has landed here from the US for your kind comments, links, reblogs and most important of all, for keeping Piers Morgan! (No, DaMav, you can keep the hypocritical, phone hacking, socialist windbag. We already have too many like him over here).

I readily agree that Obama and Co would probably love to replicate the EU model on your side of the pond. But compared to the UK, the US has far more democratic protection, the backstop of a written Constitution, and a Supreme Court that is actually sovereign.

You have no idea how much I envy your comparative freedom. Here’s hoping the conservative base in the US gets its act together, and increases its majority in the House and takes control of the Senate and the White House with a small government agenda.

Unfortunately, Obama would find all those conditions quite acceptable, as long as those international bodies are run by people in ideological sync with him. He’s not a big fan of national sovereignty, whether American or British.

Their opinions are not representative of our perspectives. In fact, for the past few years I’ve felt that both the UK and Germany would be much stronger for not being in the EU.
