It’s deja vu all over again

David Cameron seems to consider himself to be akin to King Midas or Superman.

In little over a week Cameron has declared a premature victory in his supposedly personal battle to only increase the UK’s contribution to the EU budget by £450m a year, he has pledged to ‘personally intervene‘ to get foreign governments to take back their countrymen who are imprisoned in UK jails; and now Cameron:

‘…is to launch a last-ditch personal attempt to breathe fresh life into England’s faltering bid to host the 2018 World Cup.’

Oh well, that just about kills off the England bid. One wonders, in his mind’s eye does Cameron visualise himself wearing his pants over the top of spandex leggings and donning a cape, invincible and uniquely capable to achieve any outcome he desires? He increasingly looks to have inherited Gordon Brown’s mantle for jinxing everything he touches.

This is what happens when PR and spin is used as a substitute for substance. The reality never measures up to the lofty rhetoric.

The only good bit of news this week, if true.

Careful, this just might be the pay-off for bending over backwards for the EU. He can heroically intervene, “win” the World Cup bid and all will be forgiven…
