Comment is Free?

Unless you are trying to comment on a post in the Guardian.

Bishop Hill suggested taking a look at the comments in response to Bob Ward’s latest self indulgent whinge in the Groan (his job is to get column inches proclaiming impending catastrophe, so if climate armageddon predicted by his employers is being ignored Ward is proving ineffective).

And as usual it looks like the only thing that is liberal over there is the use of the moderator’s hammer…

    (Sorry – couldn’t resist)

To be fair the modding at CIF is fairly relaxed (except I presume in cases like this!) I have only seen a few comment threads out of hundreds being heavily modded. I suspect in this case the author has specific modding rules…couldn’t possibly be stifling debate could they? ;-)

What irritates me is when a comment is removed with nothing against house rules but quoting an insult but the original comment with the insult remains in full view.

    What it should say!

“This comment has been removed by a moderator due to the fact that the commenter doesn’t believe our blatant lies. Replies may also be deleted because the debate is over.”

    or

“This comment has been removed by a moderator due to the fact that the comments are devastating to our religious belief in Anthropogenic Global warming and our call for the reduction the human population. Replies may also be deleted because the debate is over.”

There is often no rhyme nor reason to the moderation at CiF. I had all my comment removed after Fred Astaire’s recent article as head of the climate change committee. As someone who also heads up the FSA (another spectacular failure) I said it was time we got rid of these morons. Seems this was offensive enough for them and a bunch of egotistical empty heads to jump on me.

Bob Ward carbon traders attack poodle. http://www.standardpoodleclub.com/welcome.html from Grantham Institute for Climate Change http://www3.imperial.ac.uk/pgprospectus/facultiesanddepartments/granthaminstituteforclimatechange “Fully funded PhD. Just give us the science to so we can tax the atmosphere – deliver us carbon trading today – so we can make trillions doing bugger all”.

Mentioning the villa in Tuscany is a good way to get a comment pulled on one of LaToynbee’s articles.

As private Jones said in Dad’s Army; “they don’t like it up em”

In many of TwythAberys’s previous comments he (he must be a he) starts sentences with “So…”. Starting a sentence with “So” was a capital offence in my school. The moderator is being soft.

I’ve even had an ON-topic link from the G’s own archive on global warming (a Monbiot article in fact) deleted….

    Funny but…..

I wonder if any Guardian peeps will be going on the nearly £4k a pop Cambridge Programme for Sustainable Leadership course later this month.

One of them went through the formerly title Cambridge Programme for Industry’s UK chapter of Al Gore’s The Climate Project project. Now it doesn’t seem to mention it much in the present tense but the claims that you become part of a network of over 3000 ‘leaders’ sounds an awful lot like the The Climate Project project. You’ll even be hearing stories from a ‘ world-class leader on implementing change’ on the 4th day. It has gone from 1.5 days training to 4 days networking, eating & drinking.

And if those don’t sound to your liking why not find out how to “change the ‘narrative’ about ecosystems/natural capital to gain more political and corporate traction”.

But I thought the science was settled?

Unfortunately for Bob he is being left behind, no longer in the loop as they say. The majority of contentious statements issued by the prophets of doom, designed to bolster the faithfull, that appear in the MSM now have comments turned off, so that the heretic crowds cannot dilute the dogma. This is noticeable more and more as the concencus of opinion moves away from the Jihadist rantings and more to rational common sense. The probability is that Bob will receive a recall notice to upgrade his program to the latest version so that he can be released once more onto the lecture circuit to profess the writings of his lords and masters.
