Taken from the comment thread on Watts Up With That…
Can anyone name anything that climate science in its current CO2 obsessed existance has done that has actually made things better (besides their budgets)?
And therein lies the nub of the whole issue that should expose it for what it is.
One thing we learn about propoganda is that it is a message boiled down to as simple a point (or points) as possible and repeated to the point of boredom. With climate science, once questioned they resort to endless reams of science, maps and data that the average person is ill qualified to interpret and simply accepts at face value.
Maybe in fighting it we should learn from the propogandists and distill it down to simple messages such as that one and repeat it to the point of inducing boredom.
Agreed with “The Grey Monk”, there is a clear answer…
But what a great question though, and one I shall use frequently…along with this one (H/T Wolf Howling):
“what evidence would be necessary to falsify the theory of global warming?”
Um…Er…Well there’s…. NO.
Yes – it has highlighted the fact that scientists are ordinary people who can be just as corruptible, ambitious, conceited, shrill, spiteful, biased, dim-witted and generally unreliable as anyone else. Few are experts – most are merely specialists.
I used to try to say clever things like that too.
The only contribution to society climate scientists are capable of making, is a tax.
CalvinBall is spot on.
This is, and always has been an exercise in propaganda.
Unfortunately, as is the case with most propaganda, it is Government sponsored and government maintained. If you are in doubt, witness the “reviews” conducted on the CRU.
We need all of the pithy questions we can muster if we are going to change the views of the gov’mint.
Now come on!
Of course the aim of climate “science” isn’t to make things better! (Not for you plebs, anyway).
It is to point out that things are “Worse than We Thought”!
The current position of climate change through anthropogenic CO2 has provided us with a legitimate, moral reason for upper middle class guilt about self-indulgence and the experiences of personal pleasure in a world of unequal distribution of opportunity and happiness. And, unexpectedly, though carbon taxes and punishments of other sorts, a way to expiate our feelings of guilt without having to change our behaviour. We can drive our SUVs, build our mansions by the seas, drink Starbucks coffee AND claim that we are not selfish, not greedy, and still focused on saving the lives of cute polar bear cubs and indiginous people without electricity, access to medical help or indoor plumbing.
That is what it has done other than fill the wallets of its adherents.
