Cameron in Thatcherite shocker!

According to a piece in the Daily Wail, when asked directly whether he was a Thatcherite, David Cameron replied:

‘No… Other people might call me that. I think the label’s now… it’s slightly become… labels now don’t quite mean what they did then.

‘I was a tremendous Mrs Thatcher supporter… The battles she won were so important for our country, but there are now different challenges and things that need to be dealt with.’

The shock in all this?  That some idiot saw fit to ask Cameron if he was a Thatcherite in the first place.

A cursory look at Cameron’s dismal record, his limp behaviour in opposition, his failure to win an election against the most unpopular Prime Minister in living memory, a quick scan of his front bench at the wets he surrounds himself with – especially that treacherous, backstabbing, europhile quisling and plotter-in-chief who worked tirelessly to bring down Thatcher, Ken Clarke – the accelerating departure from conservative principles, the vacuum that exists where conviction should reside, the two-faced rank hypocrisy, and an absence of any connection or empathy with ordinary people… yet some witless fool has the stupidity to ask if he is a Thatcherite?

For crying out loud.

Shock horror. Tory leader Cameron admits he is not a Thatcherite. That really is a bit like Tony Blair saying he is not a Brownite.

One of Maggie’s first acts as Opposition leader was to campaign for the “yes” side in the 1975 vote to stay in the EEC. In government, her appointee, Lord Cockroft, did much to draft the Single European Act, on which she guillotined debate in Parliament. It was the first half of two treaties that created the EU. Lastly, two years after her supposedly eurosceptic speech in Bruges, she allowed herself to be bullied (sic) into the ERM, the euro’s equally demented forerunner.

As much as I despise Cameron (and admire Thatch for some things), let’s not pretend her record was glorious. She is a far greater human being and politician than Dave but our current impotence as a satrapy of Brussels is partly her fault, from her actions in 1975 onwards.

And let us not forget the reason why that happened was the appalling advice from the likes of Howe, Hurd, Heseltine and Clarke. When Thatcher finally caught on to the reality and challenged it, those four engineered a coup that put the europhiles in charge, where they have remained to this day.
